Starting Principles

Starting principles is a concept that comes from sports. In tennis, your Starting Principles might include gripping the racket correctly and repositioning yourself on the court after a swing. When you mess up these foundational principles—when you learn a bad grip—all your other moves are compromised. These same concepts can be applied to your mind.

These are my starting principles.

  • "If you rethink this from scratch, what would this look like if it were easy?" — Tim Ferris
  • Honour your word. People remember.
  • Luck is a function of surface area. More experiences generate more serendipity.
  • Success isn't an end state. Success is having the freedom to pursue the continual grind of what you most enjoy.
